Llano, TX – Today at the Highland Lakes Women’s Democratic Luncheon, Jennie Lou Leeder, a seventh generation Texan and lifetime educator, declared her candidacy for United States Congress. Ms. Leeder stated, “Texas deserves representation that supports our strong values, understands our challenges, and looks to the future for growth and opportunity. It is with great excitement that I am announcing my candidacy for the United States Congress District 11. I want to be your voice in Washington. Virginia “Jennie Lou” Leeder knows West Texas and West Texas values. She was raised in Llano, TX, where she graduated from Llano High School before completing a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Education with a minor in Physical Education at Southwest Texas State University. Ms. Leeder subsequently completed her Masters in Athletic Administration at Ohio University. In college, Jennie Lou was a member of the Alpha Phi Sorority, Block and Bridle, Future Farmers of America, the SWTSU Rodeo Association, and the Texas Physical Education Recreation and Dance Club. She is a life member of the San Antonio Livestock Show and Exposition, a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a member of the Founding Families of Kendal County Geological Society, and a member of the USA Swimming and American Swim Coaches Association.
Ms. Leeder has served as the Llano County Democratic Chair since 2007. She is also a member of the Texas County Chairs Association and has served on the Executive Board. In 2014 she was elected Senate District 24 Committeewoman where she served one term. She has also sat on the Rural Subcommittee, Urban County Subcommittee, and Legislative Committees. In 2008 and 2016, she was a national delegate to the Democratic National Convention.
